[Afternoon] Dyeing Workshop (in-person) Saturday, July 11 Guest Instructor: Nakagami Dyeing Company
This is a workshop exclusively for class members, where Mr. Masaomi Nakagami of Nakagami Senshoku, a long-established dye shop in Kyoto, will teach us everything about techniques for dyeing tsumami zaiku fabric. We will use the same acid dyes as for hand-drawn yuzen, with Kitai demonstrating and Mr. Nakagami providing explanations.
What you will learn on the day
・Partial dyeing in square cutouts
・Yuzen gradation technique using a single-feather brush
・Boiling and dyeing, including color fixing
The dyes used are liquid-type acid dyes developed by Mr. Nakagami for tsumami zaiku, which "do not need to be dissolved." No blending is required, and 37 colors are already available. This significantly lowers the hurdle for partial dyeing and scrap dyeing. After the workshop, Mr. Nakagami's dyes will be available for purchase (330 yen per color, available on-site).
