[Morning] Dyeing Workshop (Zoom Broadcast) Sat, July 11th. Guest Lecturer: Nakagami Dye Shop
This is an online participation option, exclusive to students, for a dyeing workshop led by Masaomi Nakagami from Nakagami Senshoku-ten, a long-established dye shop in Kyoto, which can also be viewed via Zoom. The demonstration from the workshop will be broadcast in real-time. You can closely observe the dyeing process, which uses the same acid dyes as hand-drawn Yuzen, through your screen. You are welcome to either follow along as you watch or simply observe and learn.
Questions can be asked during the frequent Q&A sessions.
You can also ask questions anytime in the chat, and an assistant will pick them up and answer them.
What you will learn on the day:
・Square-cut partial dyeing
・Simple blurring techniques using a brush
・Boil-dyeing that completes the color fixing process
How to participate:
・This is a one-way live stream where you observe the demonstration (we will not be checking your progress).
・Questions can be asked via chat or by raising your hand (an assistant will be present to help facilitate).
For those who wish to dye along:
As Mr. Nakagami's dyes are not available for wholesale, please order them directly from Nakagami Senshoku-ten in advance if you wish to purchase them (online orders from 5 bottles, shipping fee 430 yen). If you have them ready by the day of the workshop, you can dye along with us.
Other items available for purchase include brushes:
Small brush: 413 yen
Medium brush: 440 yen
Large brush: 555 yen
It is recommended to use different brushes for different color families.
