[Morning] Dyeing Workshop (in-person) Saturday, July 11th. Guest instructor: Nakagami Dyeing Shop
This is a workshop exclusively for students, where we will welcome Masaomi Nakagami from Nakagami Senshoku-ten, a long-established dye shop in Kyoto, to teach us all about the techniques for dyeing tsumami zaiku fabric. We will use the same acid dyes as in hand-drawn Yuzen, with Mr. Nakagami's commentary accompanying Kitai's demonstration.
What you will learn on the day:
・Partial dyeing with square cutting
・Yuzen gradation technique using a single-feather brush
・Boiling dye method that completes the color fixing process
The dyes used are liquid acid dyes developed by Mr. Nakagami for tsumami zaiku, which "do not need to be dissolved." There is no need for mixing, and 37 colors are already available. This significantly lowers the barrier for partial dyeing and dyeing scraps. After the workshop, Mr. Nakagami will hold a dye sale (330 yen per color, available for purchase on the spot).
