Genuine silk, still woven today.

Nagahama first-grade pure silk crepe, white fabric. From 10cm, as much as you need.

I don't want this silk to die out.

Nagahama, Shiga, once known as Japan's foremost crepe weaving village. As the demand for traditional Japanese clothing dwindled, the production area shrank to an unprecedented degree.

Nevertheless, artisans continue to weave the finest white fabric in Japan.

Even in such difficult circumstances, the quality of the product is truly superb. I want as many people as possible to experience this authentic silk.

With this in mind, we developed a completely new hitokoshi chirimen.

Hamachirimen Today

From 1.85 million tan to 8,000 tan today.

Nagahama crepe production has a history of approximately 250 years.
High-quality raw silk, strong twisted threads, and a plump texture.

It was a top-grade white fabric production area where a single weaving mill handled everything from sourcing and twisting the threads to weaving and finishing the fabric.

As demand for traditional Japanese clothing declined, production continued to decrease. Now, even combining all types, only about 8,000 rolls are produced annually.
Looking at Ichikoshi crepe alone, production volumes dropped from approximately 600,000 rolls in 1972 to an estimated 127 rolls by 2025.

Nevertheless, seven artisans continue to preserve and pass down this supreme white fabric.

Only white fabrics refined by the cooperative are called "Hama Chirimen."

New Ichikoshi Chirimen

Let's get our hands on a real ichikoshi.

In the world of Tsumami Zaiku, "Hitokoshi Chirimen" is a well-known and trusted fabric name.

However, much of the Hitokoshi Chirimen available today is made of chemical fibers such as rayon or polyester.

What we offer is "Hon Hitokoshi" made of pure silk. It has the elegant luster and feel that only real silk can provide.

And—because it's silk, you can dye it with your own hands.

A completely new Ichikoshi, for the first time in 116 years.

Ichikoshi chirimen was born in 1910, right here in Nagahama.

We couldn't let such an authentic ichikoshi disappear—

With that thought in mind, 116 years after its birth, we have created a new ichikoshi chirimen woven as thinly as possible, exclusively for tsumami zaiku.

A typical ichikoshi roll weighs approximately 750 grams.
By using finer threads and innovative weaving techniques, we've reduced it to about 520 grams.

Even at this thinness, the fabric doesn't shift, a testament to Nagahama's reliable weaving technology.

It's easy to fold and light even when layered.

Each small petal holds its beautiful shape. It's a new form of silk for artisans.

Incidentally, in 2025, only 127 rolls of ichikoshi chirimen were woven in Nagahama.

New forms of silk textiles.

Oharibako originated as a silk thread wholesaler in Nishijin, Kyoto.

Since our founding, we have always worked with silk.

It is precisely because of our deep connection with silk that we propose this new form of silk fabric: Ichikoshi Chirimen.

It's not just for kimonos; it's for everyone who loves handicrafts.

Authentic silk, in just the right amount.

Keime Nagahama Hon-Ichikoshi Chirimen (Pure Silk, White Fabric)

Different in thinness and grain.

Even with the same "chirimen," the thickness and crepe texture vary significantly depending on how the weft threads are woven (number of crosses).

Oharihako's Ichikoshi is a "Light Ichikoshi" woven as thinly as possible specifically for tsumami zaiku.

Compared to regular Ichikoshi chirimen (approx. 750-760g), the fabric weight is about 30% lighter (approx. 520g), making it thinner and easier to fold.

The crepe is the finest, and even when folded multiple times, it remains light and airy.

Each small petal comes out beautifully defined.
