Since ancient times, kinchaku (drawstring pouches) have been cherished as auspicious motifs, appearing alongside hooks, shippo (seven treasures), and cloves in "treasure" patterns. The kinchaku symbolizes a bag that accumulates treasures. Oharibako, based in Nishijin, Kyoto, handcrafts each item, wishing for the lasting good fortune of your precious daughter.

The fabric is carefully selected antique kimono cloth. It is a vibrant kimono fabric made from the Meiji to early Showa periods, featuring bold primary colors. We have lavishly used classical patterns, difficult to reproduce today, from our collection amassed over many years. As each item is unique, the kinchaku you receive will be the only one of its kind in the world.

The drawstring and main body are attached using a technique called "kagari" (whipping stitch), which is also used for maiko's flower baskets and tea ceremony equipment covers, with each stitch sewn by hand. The two outer pieces and the round bottom fabric are gathered and attached, expertly crafted into a perfect sphere. A pure silk odamaki (decorative knot) is attached to the end of the drawstring, acting as a stopper when pulled, allowing you to hold it by the loop.

Please consider pairing it with a "hakoseko" made from the same antique fabric. This round kinchaku, which brings good fortune, is perfect for Shichi-Go-San, New Year's, or Hina Matsuri.
